After an absolutely INCREDIBLE few months, Living Raw Magazine issue 2 is finally out! This has been a labour of love for me and my absolute passion, and today picking up the magazines from printer I finally see the work of myself and the wonderful writers come together :-)

For anyone who doesn’t know, Living Raw is a magazine dedicated to Australian raw food lifestyle and culture. It started out as a mini magazine about shopping for raw, organic food and services in Perth but this issue expands nation wide! It’s now 40 pages, on beautiful heavy 100% recycled paper in a texture I absolutely love (I just love stationary so this is absolute bliss to me … next to mangoes of course!) and the photographs are just stunning. This is a magazine that you’ll want to keep.

I’m just so happy to get this out there - so please do pick up a copy!   http://www.livingraw.com.au/

There’s a few copies of Issue 1 left too: handmade with love, so very rare!

I would like to share this sweet story with you:

The carpenter I hired to help me restore an old farmhouse had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in stoney silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. After opening the door, he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss. Afterward, he walked me to my car. We passed the tree, and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier. “Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing for sure, troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning, I pick them up again.” “Funny thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”

We all need balance in our lives, and taking troubles from work to home can cause all kinds of tension, as I have personally experienced!

My ritual was coming home troubled and stressed resulted in me making poor food choices so I would eat beautiful, organic and pure foods all day but finish off with Japanese take away. Not only was the food heavy, salty and not very tasty but I would sleep heavier, have trouble waking up the next morning, and struggle through the day.  The troubles I had at the end of yesterday didn’t get stuffed down by starchy food - they were fed and became hungrier the next day!!

I believe we put intention into our food, so a meal prepared in a tired and stressed mood will not reward you in the same way as a meal prepared in a good mood.  Whether or not there is science (psuedo or other) behind this I cannot say, but I can’t disagree that cooking when upset or stressed results in a meal thats slopped onto the plate!  Whilst a meal lovingly made is often presented nicely, or just by simply topping your slop with a pretty garnish!!

What I am now doing to achieve balance is recognising the point where I fall into weakness - for example, sitting at the computer so long my eyes hurt and I get tired then don’t want to prepare food; and I am setting a limit so, as in the parable above, I set the trouble and stress aside before moving into my personal non-work space.

What I’m trying to say is that, when working towards your goals to be a good raw foodist - whether you’re striving for 100% or aiming to eat raw several times a week - make a small ritual or gesture that allows you to release the stress of the day so you are free to move that one step closer to achiving your goals!

Here’s to a stress-free day!  :)

String of Hearts, by aussiegal on Flickr

String of Hearts, by aussiegall on Flickr.

Life has been so amazingly WOW! since leaving my full time job!   And it’s only been 3 days!  The world is resonating with me right now, playing in sync and tune to create a wonderful melody!

I made a pact with myself that when I left work, taking the steps to a whole new way of living, I would return to being 100% Raw. Since Sunday 2nd May both Chris and I have returned to a much more simplistic diet and boy are we detoxing!  Ewww…. :-)  But it feels so great to get rid of the yukky stuff!    It’s been 4 days and all was going well until this evening, when we had some bread as part of a salad burger and it made me realise that I need to take this to a whole new level.

So in the interests of accountability, I’m announcing that I’m going on a 100 day, 100% Raw Challenge!  Starting NOW!

My goals are:

~ Release 15kgs weight, which is quite realistic for 3 and a bit months.
~ Forgive myself for any slip ups and move forward with positive intentions.
~ Gain the habit of daily exercise, including personal training and private exercise either strenuous (jogging) or light (pilates/yoga).
~ Gain balance between my work, life, social and private spheres.
~ Live passionately in every moment!

What’s my motivation?

~ My cousin is coming home from overseas for a holiday in July and he hasn’t seen me since my wedding, when I was at my largest weight nearly 150kgs.  I want to look damn good!
~ To have the energy to do everything I need to do.
~ To be in alignment with my inner beliefs about health and vitality - as “they” say, what you feel on the inside and experience on the outside should be the same so that you have balance.

One month from today is my 30th birthday, an event I’m looking forward to with much excitement!  I know nothing really changes, but the thought of entering a new decade of my life, the next stage of my journey, and I don’t know what awaits me.  At one point this thought was terrifying, but now it’s amazing:  I think of where I am right now in this point in time and it’s exactly where I’m meant to be, and I know - intend - that the best is still to come!

My goals for the 100 Day, 100% Raw challenge reflect this:  it’s about positive development in the right direction and taking responsibility for how I want to feel and where I want to be.

So now - a call to action! Who is going to join me in this challenge?

If you have been waiting for a good excuse now’s the time, lets join forces and support each other on this journey!

Can’t wait to hear from you!  ;-)
